About Bass River Pottery
Bass River Pottery : Local Pottery Business located on Cape Cod , Massachusetts.
Bass River Pottery was born from a simple dream: to live by the sea, near the beach, and make pottery. It began many years ago with a small empty building, a few bags of clay, and a wheel.
Since then, the studio has grown from making a few coffee mugs into producing a few hundred coffee mugs a year—along with handmade tiles showcased throughout the Cape.
Over time, we developed pieces that reflect our surroundings. It took years to perfect the mermaid mugs, adding just the right handle to bring each design to life. Our jewelry bowls form shells inspired by the sandy beaches, capturing the feel of the coast in ceramic form.
Many of our bowls feature sgrafitto—a technique shaped by an intense desire to draw and carve. The designs are influenced by the Cape’s oceans and beaches, as well as the perennial beds tended around the studio.
We also make our tiles by hand, cut, formed, and detailed individually. They are created the old-fashioned way, using a rolling pin and a slat of wood.
